Advocacy & Education
We believe great food starts with understanding where it comes from and how it’s made.
At Vermont Tortilla Company, advocacy and education are a core part of our mission. We don’t just make tortillas — we work to reconnect people with the food they eat, the ingredients behind it, and the hands that make it possible.
Our factory tours offer a behind-the-scenes look at how organic corn is transformed into fresh, flavorful tortillas using traditional techniques. Visitors see each stage of the process, from whole corn through nixtamalization, stone grinding, and high-heat cooking.
We talk openly about why these methods matter — how nixtamalization improves nutrition and flavor, why stone grinding produces better texture, and what high-heat cooking does for consistency and performance in the kitchen.
Tours are designed to be approachable and informative for all ages. They’re especially valuable for school groups, culinary programs, and anyone interested in food systems, agriculture, or traditional foodways.
Beyond production, we use these tours to advocate for healthy food, transparency in manufacturing, and sourcing from small family farms. We believe people deserve to know what’s in their food, where it comes from, and how it’s made — and that knowledge empowers better choices.
Whether you’re a student, educator, chef, or simply curious about real food, a factory tour is a chance to see how thoughtful process and quality ingredients come together every day.
It’s a story worth sharing — and seeing firsthand.
